GIGABYTE has long supported environmental issues and has spared no effort in environmental protection initiatives. We follow the local environmental legislation at all of our global sites and promote green supply chain management. Since 2010 we, as a brand manufacturer, have devoted ourselves to promoting environmental education for all employees. The promotion of "Green Action Plan" incorporates environmental knowledge into enterprise risk management, green product design,
waste reduction, logistics management and sustainable development.
Faced with a future where global resource depletion looms this is our
way to contributing to a sustainable planet development.

Environmental Policy
The environmental policy at GIGABYTE is as follows:
  1. Execute clean production, prevent contaminants and
    continuous improvement.
  2. Observe environmental, health and safety regulations,
    and other related requirements.
  3. Encourage suppliers to perform environmental protection, health and safety programs.
  4. Control safety and health risks to prevent personal injury or harm.
  5. Volunteer to monitor, control and reduce greenhouse gases, and to save energy and resources.
  6. Eliminate environmentally-prohibited substances in product and achieve a positive recovery, reuse and recycling ratio.
  7. Communicate company-wide with all personnel whom ever under company’s control, and let them know the responsibilities of health care and safety recognition.

GIGABYTE strives for continual improvement by staying current with the latest developments in quality control and criteria. Producing the highest quality products ensures a successful, responsible, and profitable future for the company.

Green Product
GIGABYTE takes any potential environmental impact into account during the product design stage. Products are designed to "reduce the environmental impact" by integrating the Eco-design from the raw-materials stage through to the end user. Key eco-design measures adopted in GIGABYTE products currently include:

Extending the Product Lifecycle and Warranty Period
In 2006, GIGABYTE revolutionized the industry by pioneering the introduction of motherboards with all solid-state capacitors. Motherboards with all-solid state capacitors have now become the industry standard. Today, GIGABYTE is the brand motherboard manufacturer with the most comprehensive product range and highest proportion of sales. GIGABYTE’s products from high-end to entry-level utilizing all solid-state capacitor design have an extended product lifecycle in addition to increased system stability. GIGABYTE has always provided innovative value from a consumer's perspective. We focus on developing products that offer exceptional performance, outstanding quality, superlative craftsmanship and a friendly interface. Products including GIGABYTE motherboards with Ultra Durable™ 4 technology, USB 3.0 motherboards, On/Off Charge technology for charging and iPhones and iPads or 24-phase CPU VRM power supply design have all been well received by the market. In 2011, GIGABYTE was the industry-leading manufacturer to release product lines with a free 4-year warranty, a year more than the standard 3-year warranty offered in the motherboard industry. By thinking about the product lifecycle at the very source, we reduce the production of waste and help protect the environment in the most practical way.

Energy Saving
GIGABYTE motherboards emphasize long service life to save energy. The motherboards equipped with all-solid state capacitors, Ultra Durable technology, dynamic energy saving technology and 24-phase energy-saving design all help to reduce temperature and power consumption, extend product service life and optimize resource usage.

Year Graphic Name Energy Saving Effect
2006 All Solid State Capacitor Motherboard All solid state capacitor design extends product service life
2007 2nd Generation Ultra Durable Motherboard Effectively reduce power loss and operating temperature
2008 Dynamic Energy Saver Enable or disable Dynamic Energy Saver at the touch of a button
2008 Ultra Durable™ 3 Motherboard 2 oz pure copper PCB layer dissipates motherboard heat and reduces temperature more effectively
2010 24-Phase Power Design Improved heat dissipation and effective power distribution
2011 Ultra Durable™ 4 Motherboard Executive features prevent PC malfunction due to environmental issues

Toxin Free
In 2005 GIGABYTE became the first system brand in the world to pass IECQ QC 080000 certification. To comply with the EU RoHS regulations and provide safe computer equipment to users, we have already implemented lead-free production process and introduced a Green Components Management System to establish a green supply chain. All company products such as motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, computer chassis and power supplies now conform to RoHS requirements. We are also continuing to monitor international developments in environmental regulations such as REACH and China RoHS and remove hazardous substances restricted by laws.

Waste Reduction
GIGABYTE has always spared no effort when it comes to reducing product packaging. Our efforts have included using the minimum product packaging, making use of recyclable materials, not using polystyrene for padding, limiting the use of hazardous substances in packaging and use of recycling marks. All of these measures serve to make the best use of resources, reduce waste and facilitate recycling for reuse.

Recycling
In a recycling society, some materials from waste electronics still have very high reuse value. GIGABYTE conforms to the European Union WEEE Directive extending manufacturer responsibility. We have therefore set up recycling channels in Europe, North America and Taiwan. Consumers can check with us to find their nearest recycling point and drop off any products they plan to discard. In this way, waste can be recycled and reused. For more information, please visit the official recycling website.

Green Supply Chain
GIGABYTE requires tier-1 suppliers to set up an environmental management system and all tier-1 suppliers are now ISO 14001 certified. Since 2012, suppliers have been required to conform to the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) and not use conflict metals. In terms of the products we procured, suppliers are required to follow the Gigabyte Technology Group Guidelines for the Management of Harmful Chemical Substances Requirements (HCSR), RoHS, WEEE and other relevant local government environmental legislation or regulations governing pollution prevention and waste disposal. In subject to environmental legislation or substance regulations specified by GIGABYTE such as substance of very high concern (SVHC) defined in the EU REACH legislation or Level B and Level C substances listed in HCSR, suppliers are required to cooperate with inspections and actively notify the results. Suppliers must also sign the Certificate of Non-use for Controlled Substances as well as a declaration for non-use of REACH SVHC.
